Why does Christendom (if we can still speak of that concept) lose so many of our young people in their young adult stage? Jeff Meyers, author of Hand-off, says that one major reason is that young adults feel useless and marginalized. Yet another casualty of our addiction to the notion of adolescence as a time of self-indulgence and irresponsibility.
An increasing number of young people are refusing both the adolescent designation and the low expectations that go with it. They look on youth as a time to use their first strength to advance the cause of Christ and to lay a foundation for their future families. These young people are not waiting to become wonderful - and their stories are the real antidote to hard times and bleak forecasts!
Countdown to College, Mother-Lode's sister blog, is hosting a new award for teens: the Carpe Diem Cadre. The award recognizes the adult accomplishments of extraordinary teens with a feature article on Countdown to College, an invitation to speak at Countdown to College workshops, and an awards package of life-launch resources.
Click on over to read all about it. And while you're at it, nominate an extraordinary teen in your sphere!
